CBD Myths: What People Say and What Is True

Does CBD get you high? Is it the same as THC? We take apart the most repeated myths about CBD.

CBDCBD Myths: What People Say and What Is True

CBD has been trendy for a few years now and, like everything that goes trendy, it drags a pile of nonsense along with it. That it gets you high, that it is the same as THC, that it is all the same. Let us separate the wheat from the chaff with the most repeated myths.

Myth 1: “CBD gets you high”

False. CBD is not psychoactive: it does not get you high, it does not leave your eyes red and it does not send you to the sofa. The one that gets you high is THC. We explain it in depth in What Is CBD and How Is It Different From THC?.

Myth 2: “CBD and THC are the same thing”

Nope. They are two different cannabinoids from the same plant. They look and smell alike, but THC gets you high and CBD does not. Same family, opposite behaviour.

Myth 3: “CBD never shows up on a drug test”

Careful with this one. Flowers and full spectrum oils carry traces of THC (below the legal limit), and drug tests look for THC, not CBD. So it is not something we can guarantee: if you are going to be tested, keep it in mind.

Myth 4: “All CBD is the same”

Not even close. It changes with the growing method (greenhouse, indoor or hydroponic), the concentration, the format (flower, hash or oil) and whether it is full spectrum or isolate. That is why we give you a hand choosing in the CBD Flower Buying Guide: How to Choose Yours and in Full Spectrum CBD Oils: What They Are and How to Pick the Concentration.

Myth 5: “CBD is only a medical thing”

This is not our lane: we do not attribute any properties to it. What is true is that plenty of people use it simply for the flavour, the aromas and the experience of the plant without the THC buzz. Nothing more, nothing less.

Myth 6: “CBD has no taste or smell”

Not a chance. CBD flower smells and tastes like cannabis, with its terpenes marking each variety: more citrus in the Mandarin, earthier in the Diesel. The percentage is not everything; the aroma comes from the growing.

To sum up

CBD does not get you high, it is not the same as THC, it is not all the same and, when it comes to properties, better not to trust what gets thrown around out there. If you want to try it knowing what you are doing, drop by the CBD section. Had you heard any of these myths?
