If you mix travelling and weed, the combination can only be perfect. Here are 5 cannabis destinations you cannot miss.

5 cannabis destinations you cannot miss

Of all the things we miss, travelling is the one we miss the most. We cannot wait to grab a backpack, get on a plane and get lost around the world. Travelling is like reading: it opens your mind to unimaginable limits. Einstein already said it, that a mind that opens up to a new idea never goes back to its original size. So let us add a bit of colour with these five destinations.

Travelling the world with weed

Chefchaouen (Morocco)

Along with Afghanistan, Morocco is the main hash exporter in the world: it is reckoned that 60% of the hash consumed in Europe comes from the African country. You will find hash and a good level of acceptance of cannabis in almost the whole country, but if you want to visit the closest thing to stoner heaven, Chefchaouen is your place. It is a town of 40,000 inhabitants in the Ketama region, the cradle of European hash, a little village painted entirely blue. Flights, accommodation and food are dirt cheap: from Spain it is the best destination in terms of distance versus price.

Amsterdam (Netherlands)

Not long ago we told you that Amsterdam Plans to Ban Tourists From Coffeeshops, bad news that has to be fought. It is the best known destination: it has been almost 30 years since the Dutch capital legalised consumption in this type of venue. The atmosphere you breathe, inside and outside the coffeeshops, is on another level. It is easily in the top 3 European capitals to visit, so do not sleep on it.

Barcelona (Spain)

Amsterdam earned its cannabis tourism over the years, and Barcelona is heading the same way: it is by far the city in Spain with the most cannabis clubs. Hard as it is to believe, it has already overtaken the Dutch capital (it is reckoned there are around 218 clubs up and running compared with 177 in Amsterdam). Barcelona is unique culturally and architecturally, and taking in all those wonders while nicely stoned is a serious plan. The culture of picking up through an association is well established, with a vibe very close to that of the Amsterdam clubs.

Vancouver (Canada)

Even before the 2018 legalisation, Vancouver already tolerated a few coffeeshops where you could consume openly. It has a long cannabis tradition and use is widely accepted. We have not been ourselves, but it must be unreal to smoke a joint while taking in the Rocky Mountains. If you like smoking but you are also into sport and switching off in nature, put Vancouver on your wishlist.

Kingston (Jamaica)

If you are into the more tropical vibe, smoking under a palm tree facing the beach, Jamaica is the plan you are looking for. Rastas, reggae, dream beaches and cannabis: you do not need anything else. Possession of up to 57 grams is legal and you can enjoy it at home or in clubs. If you have more budget and more days for the trip and you fancy a different kind of adventure, Kingston is your place.
