Yesterday my face popped up on our Instagram to ask you lot what this week's article should be about, and I woke up ready to grant your stoner wishes.
Today we are talking about the three states people throw around as if they were the same thing when they describe what THC does to them. Here is the timeline and the sensations of these three stages.
The order is always the same
You have heard the three expressions loads of times and, even though people reckon they all mean the same thing, there are small differences.
The order in which the effect hits your body always follows the same pattern: we start off high, we shift into stoned after a few hours, and if we do not ease off we end up a bit baked.
High
This is that first stage where you feel the emotional and physical rush and the euphoria, and it depends on variables like the method, the potency and how much experience you have smoking.
At this stage we usually feel giggly and sociable, and it is the best one of the three, so try to enjoy it and stretch it out as long as you can.
Red eyes and a dry mouth are the starter pack of this first state. For us, hands down, it is the part we like most.
Stoned
Here things stop being all rosy. While being high describes the feeling of being up, being stoned is exactly the opposite.
The sensations that can show up are heaviness, dizziness and drowsiness. Basically, being stoned is a high that has drifted into lethargy and raging hunger, with a deep feeling of physical relaxation.
There is nothing wrong with this stage: it will just be better or worse depending on the plan you had. If you wanted an active morning and you feel more stoned than high, you will be frustrated. But if you are going for a chill Sunday with zero obligations, being stoned might be your best plan.
Baked
The third state. Being baked, as in straight out of the oven, is a stoned state taken one step too far.
If after a session with your mates you have been through the high and the stoned, baked is the natural next stop. Ideally you get there at the end of the ritual, when you are already thinking more about sticking something on Netflix and going to bed than about carrying on smoking.
To put it more graphically: you and your mates are baked when you have been sitting there for five hours and you have got less brain activity than a head of broccoli.
And what if you do not want to go through any of the three?
All three states are brought on by THC. CBD is not psychoactive, so it does not get you high, stoned or baked.
That is why plenty of people who want to keep the ritual (rolling one, the flavour, the moment with your mates) without being knocked out of action go for CBD flowers or CBD hash. They roll the same and taste similar, but the next morning still happens.
It also works nicely for that chill Sunday we were talking about: you stay in the plan without ending up like a head of broccoli.
For the ritual
In our smoking accessories collection you will find rolling papers, tips, a grinder and rolling trays. And if you are starting from scratch, the Starter Pack comes with the lot for 15 €.
We hope that now you know what the three states are you will be able to spot them and work out which phase you are in so you can act accordingly.
